Oba Femi cemented his legacy in the WWE after being crowned this year’s King of the Ring during the “Night of Champions” event held at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He nabbed the win by beating Jey Uso at the tournament finals and the winner is set to face a WWE world champion of his choice.
Uso planned to challenge for the WWE Championship, but that intention went up to smoke when he was quickly dismantled by Femi in the eight-minute bout.
However, during the latest episode of “Raw,” Brock Lesnar made a surprise return and attacked Femi.
In a fit of rage, Femi challenged Lesnar to a match on “SummerSlam,” foregoing the title opportunity for now.
Femi and Uso lock horns
During Femi and Uso’s bout, the Samoan surprised his opponent with a flurry of punches.
However, the offence did not faze Femi as he replied with a devastating shoulder tackle.
Uso exited the ring to catch his breath, and managed to shove the towering Femi to the ring post.
Uso maintained his aggression as he hit Femi with two “Suicide Dives,” one of which drove the Nigerian to the barricade stomach-first.
Uso looked to go for the trifecta, but Femi turned the tables with a surprise elbow strike.
Femi then took control of the match, slowly wearing down Uso with a variety of attacks.
However, he was seen nursing his stomach area; an after-effect of being driven to the barricade earlier.
“The Ruler” then primed his opponent for a “Chokeslam,” but the slimy Uso slipped away and hit his much bigger foe with strikes.
Femi tried to end the bout with a “Fall from Grace,” but his attempt was once again thwarted as Uso countered and hit a “Super Kick” to the back of Femi’s head.
The Samoan then hit an “Uso Splash,” but it barely damaged Femi as he kicked out immediately and hit Uso with a “Chokeslam.”
A king is crowned
During the final phase of the bout, Uso stunned Femi with three “Superkicks,” as he managed to take down his opponent with a “Spear.”
Uso then hit Femi with a second “Uso Splash,” but he did not pin Fem.
Instead, he went to the top rope once again to hit a third “Uso Splash.”
It was not enough to put down “The Ruler,” so Uso utilised a “Sleeper Hold” submission to try and put the Nigerian to sleep.
The Ferocious Femi fought out of the hold, and a back-and-forth commenced with “The Ruler” getting the upper hand.
Femi ended the match by picking up a dazed Uso and hit him with a “Fall from Grace” for the pinfall victory.
“It feels so good to go from a ruler, to being the king,” Femi proclaimed during a post-match interview, as he was rewarded with a golden crown.
