Milly Alcock is back in the spotlight. This time, not as the fierce Rhaenyra Targaryen from House of the Dragon but in the iconic role of Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl, the Man of Steel’s very own Kryptonian cousin.
Fans are again treated to a fresh glimpse of the beloved heroine’s next chapter, offering another exciting update on Alcock’s highly-anticipated take on Kara Zor-El.
This comes after Supergirl’s appearance in The Flash (2023) and the conclusion of Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl series on The CW back in 2021.
Co-chief executive officer of DC Studios and filmmaker James Gunn has shared a second behind-the-scenes tease of the Supergirl movie on Instagram, showing a photo of Alcock holding a Supergirl comic book.
‘Supergirl’ filming already underway
The live adaptation of the “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely, began its filming in the United Kingdom in January, according to a report by People Magazine.
“Today we celebrate #Supergirl and all her various incarnations. Can’t wait for you to see the latest version, portrayed by the indomitable @millyalcock, in June 2026,” Gunn wrote in the caption.

Haunted by the loss of her planet Krypton and overshadowed by her cousin Superman, Kara finds herself aimless. Until a young alien girl seeks her help in avenging her destroyed homeworld.
Reluctantly drawn into a brutal quest, Supergirl, alongside her loyal companion Krypto and the vengeful child, embarks on a harrowing journey across the stars that will test her strength, compassion, and sense of justice, all while she carries the heavy burden of remembering Krypton: her world, her people, her life – and the pain of losing it all.
The movie adaptation will follow the release of Superman, which is set to hit theatres on July 11, with David Corenswet taking on the role of the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor, People Magazine reported.
Release date set for July 2026
The new Supergirl adaptation will hit the screen in July 2026. In the film, Matthias Schoenaerts will be the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley is Ruthye Marye Knoll, and David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham will be portraying Kara’s parents.
The film will also include fan-favorite super-dog Krypto. Adding even more star power, Jason Momoa returns to the DC Universe in a new role, stepping into the boots of the notorious anti-hero Lobo.
“So excited to be a part of the DC fam – thank you so much to @jamesgunn for trusting me with Kara / Supergirl,” Alcock said in an Instagram post back in January 2024, when she first revealed her role in Gunn’s new DC Universe.
Supergirl was originally created in 1959 by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino as a fresh addition to the Superman universe, though not every version that followed was directly tied to the Man of Steel.
The character then made her big screen debut in 1984, with Helen Slater donning the cape in the original Supergirl film.
