Everton manager David Moyes praised the club’s fans for generating a “great atmosphere” in the final game at Goodison Park, which the Toffees won comfortably against Southampton.

The rock-bottom Saints provided the perfect opponent for Moyes’ men, who took the lead on six minutes through Iliman Ndiaye to get Goodison going on an emotional day.

Ndiaye settled any nerves with his second goal of the game just before the interval, then the hosts cantered through the second half, having just one shot on target.

Late heroics

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford pulled off some late heroics to keep a clean sheet for Everton, who will play at the new 52,888-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley Moore Dock in the 2025-26 campaign.

Goodison Park will become the home of Everton’s women’s team.

The Toffees travel to St James’ Park for a final-day tussle with Newcastle United, but for now they will bask in the glory of their 1,538th win in 2,789 games in all competitions at their famous ground.

Great atmosphere

Everton boss Moyes told TNT Sports after the match: “This team will be remembered in history as the one who played the last game.

“I was more impressed by the atmosphere. There were times in the stadium when it was great. All the supporters in the ground as one together.

“We still have a bit to go, but we will enjoy it now. We did the job and got the three points.

“I’ve been here a while and I know what it means. It’s been a great stadium.”

Hat-trick hope

Hero of the day Ndiaye also spoke to TNT Sports, saying: “It means a lot, and I wanted to score a hat-trick.

“Since the day I came in they [the fans] have been great, I wanted to give them a win.

“The roar was amazing. It’s an amazing day. They deserve it.”
