Film news: Millie Bobby Brown returns in Netflix’s ‘Enola Holmes 3’

Millie Bobby Brown Enola Holmes 3

Millie Bobby Brown reprises her titular role in Netflix’s third instalment of the ‘Enola Holmes’ franchise.

The ‘Stranger Things’ actress is joined by Louis Partridge (‘House of Guinness’), Henry Cavill (‘Man of Steel’) and Helena Bonham Carter (‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘Fight Club’), who return to their roles from the Sherlock Holmes spin-off’s previous films.

The sequel is directed by Philip Barantini, who recently directed the Netflix hit series ‘Adolescence’ (2025).

Who is Enola Holmes?

Enola Holmes is the younger sister of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, yet is a more than worthy detective in her own right.

A strong-willed teenager, Enola is guided by an independent moral compass and uses her impressive skillset to solve mysteries with a unique flair.

The spirited detective was created separately from the stories of Sherlock Holmes and is an original character introduced by Nancy Springer in her mystery novel series, ‘Enola Holmes’.

A Netflix success

The 2020 film adaptation quickly became one of Netflix’s most-watched original titles, breaking many of the platform’s records and becoming its biggest first-day opening that year.

Millie Bobby Brown, who also served as a producer on the film, was praised for her enthusiastic portrayal of the lead character.

Enola frequently breaks the fourth wall in the films, which is a choice that showcases the character’s personality and has shaped her into an exciting protagonist for young viewers.

In the 2022 sequel, which was similarly well-received, Enola starts her own detective agency, but has to prove herself as a respectable detective.

Both films’ central mysteries involve a missing person case, and the upcoming third film is no different.

Where is Sherlock Holmes?

In the third film’s trailer, Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill) has been kidnapped and it is up to Enola to recover him.

However, Enola is thrown into the mystery whilst en route to her wedding to her franchise-long love interest, Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge).

Thus, the family film’s first look teases an eventful closing to the trilogy, filled with action, romance, and mystery.

‘Enola Holmes 3’ is set to release on July 1 exclusively on Netflix, where the first two films are now streaming.
