Film news: Women in journalism on the big screen – Who to watch?

By Shauna Hyland

Over the years, cinema has seen many journalists as main characters, with a lot of them notably being women.

Following the release of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, News Just News takes a look at the many women in journalism we’ve had on the big screen.

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Released in 2006, the film follows Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), an aspiring journalist who becomes the assistant to the renowned difficult fashion editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).

Andy ends up working at Runway magazine, attempting to keep up with a realm she’s not at all familiar with.

Cinemas recently saw the release of the 2026 sequel, where Andy and Miranda have to help fight the declining readership in print journalism.
