Canadian-American comedy legend Jim Carrey made a rare public appearance in France last week, as he was awarded an Honorary César Award at the 51st César Awards in Paris.
During the event, the actor delivered an emotional speech, which was entirely delivered in French.
The prestigious recognition, though, was not what caught people’s attention the most.
The actor looked visibly different compared to the last time he attended a public event, with some online users even claiming a “conspiracy”.
“That’s not Jim Carrey!”, a Reddit user wrote after the event.

‘Actors playing actors’
Carrey, 64, looked visibly puffier and somewhat younger; more than anything though, he just looked different, online users observed.
Fans immediately rushed to social media to discuss whether the Hollywood icon had undergone cosmetic procedures.
“What’s funny about the Jim Carrey botox stuff is that he’s an actor known for having a uniquely expressive face, who is choosing to paralyze it,” someone else added.
From Botox talk to body double theories
“Jim Carrey doesn’t look, sound, or behave like Jim Carrey. Actors playing actors,” an X user posted, including a video of Carrey’s appearances in films and TV programmes over the years.
And while the answer is most likely to be found in a not-so-great series of plastic surgeries, the web has once again found its way towards the realm of conspiracies.
“Is he wearing a mask?” a user commented.
Some even seemed to suggest that the person was not even Jim Carrey, and that the actor had been ‘swapped with a double’.
The strange case of Alexis Stone
On Monday, the whole affair got even weirder.
An SFX makeup artist, Alexis Stone, shared on his Instagram account a picture of Carrey during the incriminating evening, and added the caption: “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”
He also posted an eerie photo of a hyperrealistic mask sitting next to a set of dentures on a desk, with a wig in the background.
Thousands of comments have since been flooding under the photos, with actress Megan Fox writing: “I can’t handle any more stress right now, I need to know if this is real.”
As of Monday, Carrey has not addressed the bizarre situation he found himself in.
And just like Fox, the only thing we can do is wait for answers.
