Residents of Laguna province in the Philippines can now access free healthcare services through a mobile application, a move officials say aims to improve convenience and broaden coverage for local communities.
The Gobyernong may Solusyon (GOBSOL) App, launched by Laguna Governor Sol Aragones, allows users to book online consultations with a range of medical specialists, including psychiatrists, paediatricians, orthopaedic doctors, obstetricians, gynaecologists, and internal medicine practitioners.
Aragones said users can download the app on Android devices, register their details, and select a consultation date.
The free online service is currently available from Monday to Wednesday, between 9 am and noon, with plans to extend availability and support for iOS devices in the future.
“Through your Android cellphone, you can already consult with doctors using the GOBSOL App, and we also provide free medicines,” Aragones said in an interview with the Philippine Information Agency.

Convenience for patients with chronic conditions
Early users welcomed the new system, highlighting its convenience for patients with chronic conditions.
Upon completing an online consultation, patients receive an electronic prescription, which they can present at the nearest Akay ni Gob Botika pharmacy to collect free medicines.
Provincial Health Consultant Dr Eric Tayag explained that e-prescriptions reduce risks associated with physical prescriptions, such as loss, damage, or fading, while providing a more reliable record of treatment.
Strengthening healthcare access
Aragones emphasised that the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen Laguna’s healthcare system, improve patient access, and ensure consistent standards of service.
Provincial authorities said they conduct regular visits and inspections of hospitals to maintain quality and ensure that services remain humane and reliable for all residents.
The GOBSOL App represents an effort by the local government to integrate digital solutions into public healthcare, potentially serving as a model for other regions in the Philippines seeking to improve service delivery, increase accessibility, and modernise patient care through technology.
