Box office hit ‘Project Hail Mary’ will return to screens as a virtual and mixed-reality game, where players travel through the cosmos and keep missions intact with their extraterrestrial best friend, Rocky.
‘Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars’ is set to release in Fall 2026.
The game will put players in the shoes of Ryland Grace — the same protagonist in the book and film adaptation — to help save the world by maintaining the spacecraft and the long-shot mission.
The game will feature a new original story written by Andy Weir, the novelist behind ‘Project Hail Mary’.
“Ryland Grace and his friend and crewmate Rocky must work together in the face of disaster to keep the Hail Mary intact and bring their world-saving cargo to Eridani — Rocky’s home planet and Grace’s new home,” the official synopsis reads.

London-based extended reality game developer Maze Theory on Friday revealed the gameplay trailer, featuring the original voice actor of Rocky, James Ortiz.
Ortiz said that voicing Rocky again was special, and fans will be able to experience Grace’s point of view – interacting with Rocky on a new journey.
“It is as close as you can get to the cinematic experience, but this time you are inside it,” said Ortiz, as quoted by Yahoo Tech.
As shown in the trailer, you, as a silent Ryland Grace, will: race through the stars; keep the mission alive; protect your precious cargo; diagnose failing systems; save the mission; and work alongside Rocky.
It will be launched on AndroidXR, PICO, and Meta platforms.

The success of ‘Project Hail Mary‘
Hitting the box office was a walk in the park for the sci-fi adventure film, becoming Ryan Gosling’s 4th movie to hit major box office records.
The out-of-this-world comedy-drama hit debuted at USD 80 million in North America and over USD 140 million worldwide.
With a USD 200 million production budget, it grossed around USD 684.27 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
Despite being an underdog as an original sci-fi story without any franchises attached, the success showed how moviegoers are looking for fresh and original stories with well-executed and astonishing visuals.
