The world of Egyptian mythology is finally coming to Disney+.
After the success of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” Disney+ is expanding Rick Riordan’s mythological universe with a live-action adaptation of “The Kane Chronicles.”
According to Variety, Riordan will write and executive produce the series alongside filmmaker Angela Robinson if the project receives a series order.
While “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” introduced viewers to Greek gods, “The Kane Chronicles” will be bringing the spotlight to the myths and deities of ancient Egypt.
Netflix’s failed adaptation
The project will reunite Riordan with executive producers Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell of the Gotham Group.
He will also be teaming up once more with his wife, Rebecca Riordan, who works as a non-writing executive producer of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”
The development marks “The Kane Chronicles'” second chance at getting to the screen, after Netflix shelved plans for a film adaptation back in 2024.
“Right now, Kane Chronicles is in ‘turnaround,’ which means Netflix has decided not to move forward and their option has lapsed after trying for two years to develop a script they liked,” Riordan told Variety in 2024.
After Netflix’s option lapsed, the rights returned to the author before Disney’s 20th Television began developing the books as a live-action series.

A journey into Egyptian mythology
“The Kane Chronicles” is a trilogy that includes The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, and The Serpent’s Shadow.
It will be based on Egyptian mythology and is set in the same shared universe as Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard.
Just like the books’ plot, the adaptation will follow the protagonists – estranged siblings Carter and Sadie Kane.
The two are descended from Egyptian pharaohs Narmer and Ramses the Great. Their adventure starts when they find out how their bloodline ties them to ancient Egypt and the gods themselves.
“When their father unleashes the god of chaos and vanishes, the estranged Kane siblings must master their inherited Egyptian magic, forge unlikely alliances, and rescue their father before warring gods can wreak havoc on our modern world,” according to Disney+’s logline for the series.
