The latest addition to the ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ franchise just got closer with the reveal of the new trailer and release date at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC).
The new series, ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’, will introduce audiences to a new Avatar, a being who maintains balance in the world and can bend all four elements.
‘Seven Havens’ is the second animated sequel series to the original Avatar show, and it continues the story years after the previous sequel series, ‘The Legend of Korra’.
The exciting announcement introduced Avatar Pavi, a young Earthbender who is the next Avatar after Korra.
Pavi finds herself in a world shattered by an apocalyptic event and has to save the Seven Havens, the central pillar of civilisation, while uncovering her strange origins.
Joined by her long-lost twin sister, the new Avatar will need to fulfil her destiny while being hunted by human and spirit in a world where the Avatar is no longer seen as the world’s savior, but rather, its destroyer.
A vibrant and precarious new world
The world of ‘Seven Havens’ is a far cry from the one fans came to know in ‘Legend of Korra’ and the original series.
The trailer showcases vibrant visuals with vast deserts, luminous skies and voracious storms.
However, as the voice-over alludes to the disastrous state of the Avatar world, it is clear that the challenges Pavi will face are tremendous.
“We have to be prepared, because long ago our ancestors weren’t, and the Avatar let us down,” the trailer explains as an ominous shot of Korra is shown.
“Humanity is not ready for the Avatar’s return,” another voice echoes later.

A fragile state for the Avatar franchise
The stakes for Avatar Pavi’s success extend far beyond the screen.
Although the fanbase is as dedicated as ever, it is overshadowed by a constant sense of tension involving network and creative decisions.
A long-awaited animated film sequel to the original series was recently released, yet the conditions were far from optimal.
After the entire ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ film was leaked online, Paramount quietly scheduled it for a direct-to-streaming release this month.
In June, the second season of the live action Netflix remake debuted to divisive reactions from fans and critics.
But the most treacherous aspect of the legacy that ‘Seven Havens’ joins is the polarising consensus around the previous follow-up series, ‘The Legend of Korra’, among the fanbase.
These issues are rampant in the new trailer’s comment section, with fans criticising the network, voicing concerns, and poking fun at the character Korra’s failure as an Avatar.
The fate of the beloved franchise will be revealed when ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ releases on October 9.
