The 2025 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas saw a dominant display by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who converted pole position into a decisive victory.

He led from the start, executing a one-stop strategy effectively, and crossed the line 7.959 seconds ahead of Lando Norris in second place.

After a strong qualifying and clean opening laps where he built up a solid margin, Verstappen managed tyre wear through the race and held position despite pressure in the pit-stop window.

The win marked his fifth GP victory of the season and underlined his title ambitions.

Norris battles to second

Behind Verstappen, Norris was passed early by Charles Leclerc at the start.

Norris then battled Leclerc for most of the race, before eventually regaining P2 with a move around Turn 12 and holding firm to the end, while Leclerc settled for P3.

“I finally made it through, though it took long enough,” Norris said of his battle with the Monegasque.

“It was a good battle with Charles – he fought hard and it was tough. We did everything we could.

“Charles drove a very good race. It was good fun, good battles. But I’ll take second as there was not a lot more I could have done.”

Title fight heating up

Elsewhere, championship leader Oscar Piastri endured a difficult weekend, finishing fifth and seeing his points lead shrink.

He is now just 14 points ahead of team-mate Norris and 40 ahead of Verstappen.

As a result, the fight for the championship is very much alive.

With five races remaining, Verstappen’s momentum and McLaren’s stumble make things interesting.

When asked if he believed he was in the title race, the Dutchman said: “For sure, the chance is there. We just need to keep delivering weekends like this until the end and try to do what we can.”

Piastri, meanwhile, cannot afford to drop further ground.

Speaking to the media about his weekend, the Australian addressed the Verstappen threat: “I can’t say I’m shocked that this has been a tough weekend, but obviously I was hoping for better.

“Max has had a good run in the last few races, but ultimately, if we can find our way again, find our pace, and certainly for me, find the pace again, then I don’t have any major concerns.

“There is still a long way to go in the championship – and for Max, he’s chased it down pretty quickly, but it is not exactly a small gap with four, five rounds to go.

“So if we can find our pace again, things will take care of themselves.”

For now, the United States GP has reshaped the story heading into the final phase of the 2025 season.

With just a few days’ rest, McLaren and Verstappen will next take the fight to Mexico City.
