If news of Radio 1’s Big Weekend being held in Liverpool has caught your eye and you’re thinking of visiting the city, then here’s my handy list of events happening this year in the city.
The Randox Grand National
This event needs little introduction, being known as the ‘greatest steeplechase in the world’.
The prestigious three-day festival attracts over 150,000 racegoers annually and runs from Thursday 3rd April to Saturday 5th this year.
It is a joyous week of fascinators, fillies, and flip-flops, and Scousers pull out all the stops for this home sporting event.
Liverpool On The Waterfront
A four-day musical event held at the picturesque Pier Head in June sees local lads The Wombats make their second appearance in the city after May’s Big Weekend.
The following three days will host The Wolfe Tones, Cream Classical, and superstar Sting. The celebrated ‘Roxanne’ singer will be playing his hits in front of the iconic Liver Birds on June 22nd.

Artistic Gymnastics British Championships
Held at the M&S Bank Arena over the weekend of 20-23 March, spectators can see the grace of gymnasts on the floor and beam, alongside the power of vault, pommel, and bars.
Southport Flower Show
Not quite in Liverpool but just a short train ride to this local institution.
Held annually in Victoria Park, the UK’s largest independent flower show has something for everyone – think floral displays, celebrity guests, music performances, and many, many food options!
Tickets are available now for 14-17 August.
