Hi, f.r.i.e.n.d.s! Have you heard the news? Netflix is bringing the life and legacy of beloved Friends star Matthew Perry to the screen in a new three-part docuseries.
Netflix announced this week that it will release a documentary series exploring Perry’s life, career and legacy.
Titled The One About Matthew Perry, the docuseries will premiere globally on October 27, 2026 — one day before the third anniversary of the actor’s death.
The series will explore Perry’s life beyond his iconic character, Chandler Bing, tracing his journey from a rising comedian to an internationally recognized television star.
According to Netflix, the documentary will also delve into the more difficult chapters of Perry’s life, including his struggles with addiction, while exploring the person behind his public image.

The One About Matthew Perry
Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick, will be among those sharing personal memories of the actor. The documentary will also feature testimony from his lifelong friends, creative collaborators and others who knew him closely.
Bowick said it took her time to feel comfortable sharing memories of her brother. She said she wanted viewers to see Perry as a “whole person,” rather than simply as Chandler Bing or someone who struggled with addiction.
The documentary will also feature never-before-seen photographs and videos from the Perry family’s private archive, offering a more intimate look at the actor’s life away from the spotlight.
The three-part series is directed by Emmy Award winner Mary Robertson, who is known for the documentary series Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
Robertson said the documentary aims to reveal the person behind Perry’s celebrity persona and give viewers a deeper understanding of the man they knew primarily through his work on screen.
The man behind the character
For millions of Friends fans, Perry will always be remembered as the sarcastic and lovable Chandler Bing.
But The One About Matthew Perry aims to tell a story that goes beyond the character — and beyond the celebrity the world saw on television.
Perry died on October 28, 2023, at his home in Los Angeles due to acute effects of ketamine. It was classified as an accident.
He was 54.
