One of India’s most ambitious cinematic projects now has a date with audiences around the world.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has set November 6 as the global theatrical release date for “Ramayana”, the upcoming Indian epic starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi.
The film is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari, with Namit Malhotra producing.
Sony Pictures Entertainment holds the film’s global distribution rights outside India, where the movie will be released separately.
The announcement puts one of India’s most anticipated large-scale productions on the international release calendar, with Sony positioning the film for a worldwide theatrical audience.
An epic on a global stage
“Ramayana” is based on the ancient Indian epic of the same name, one of the foundational works of Indian literature and mythology.
It tells the story of Rama, a prince of Ayodhya who is exiled from his kingdom and embarks on a journey that eventually leads to a war with Ravana, the king of Lanka.
Sita, Rama’s wife, is central to the story, while Hanuman and other allies help Rama in his quest to rescue her.
The epic has been told and retold across generations, with different versions and adaptations found throughout India and across South and Southeast Asia.
According to Variety, the project is being developed as a two-part epic.

From Indian cinema to the world
The release strategy reflects the increasing international reach of major Indian productions, with “Ramayana” being prepared for audiences beyond its home market.
For Sony, the film also represents a major investment in bringing an Indian epic to cinemas around the world rather than limiting its theatrical run to India.
With Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, “Ramayana” is bringing one of India’s most enduring stories to a global theatrical stage.
And this time, the journey begins far beyond India.
