Myanmar became the first-ever Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) champions at the Asian Games after sweeping Indonesia 4-0 in the best-of-seven grand final on Thursday, securing the inaugural gold medal.
The victory came as MLBB made its official debut as a medal event at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The victory sealed an unbeaten campaign for Myanmar, who also defeated Cambodia 2-1 and Malaysia 2-0 during the best-of-three elimination stage.
Indonesia settled for silver, while Malaysia and Mongolia shared the bronze medal, according to Moonton News.
Calculated aggression
Although Indonesia found early advantage in several games, Myanmar consistently turned the series in its favour through superior gold farming, map control and objective play rather than relying solely on kills.
The second match showcased that approach.
Indonesia enjoyed a stronger early game and briefly gained momentum through successful engagements, but Myanmar responded with calculated aggression; they applied constant pressure on the enemy team without overcommitting.
Myanmar’s earlier outplays also allowed them to stay ahead in both gold and map while forcing Indonesia into increasingly risky team fights.
Myanmar EXP laner Oo Hein Htet’s Esmeralda proved pivotal during the mid-to-late game of the second match of the best-of-seven (BO7) series.
After helping eliminate opponents, Myanmar secured the Lord before setting up a decisive siege.
Indonesia attempted to defend but found itself trailing in terms of level and map control, as Myanmar already had experience advantages and Lord pushing into the base before eventually breaking through.
Strong macro
Myanmar’s strength throughout the series came from their control of the map and their ability to turn small advantages into decisive pushes.
Throughout the opening three games, Indonesia frequently found the right targets in team fights, but Myanmar repeatedly extended those fights, controlled neutral objectives and converted favourable positions into lasting map pressure.
Myanmar team’s understanding of Indonesia’s line-up also limited opportunities for a comeback.
Even as Indonesia adopted a more aggressive approach in Game 4 in a bid to stay alive in the series, Myanmar remained composed, secured key objectives including the Lord, and continued dictating the pace of the match before completing the sweep.
Standout players
Myanmar also showed flexibility in their final draft.
Hein Htet switched to Hirara, while Han Htoo used Atlas, Kyaw Myo Myint Ko Ko played Faramis, Thuya Kyaw picked Marcel (a newer hero), and Aung Shine Lin controlled Obsidia.
Indonesia then responded with an aggressive line-up featuring Esmeralda for Aung Putra, Moskov for Aung Buhe, Nolan for jungler D. Putra, Selena for Muhammad Affan Wahyudi, and Gloo for Syauki Sumarno.
Meanwhile, Shine Lin and jungler Han Htoo were among Myanmar’s standout performers during the series, while roamer Thuya Kyaw was named the Grand Final’s Star of the Day.
Kyaw recorded a 4.78 Kills, Deaths and Assists (KDA) ratio, averaged 9.5 assists per game and contributed to 64.27% of his team’s kills, while absorbing more than 5,100 damage per minute, according to the Mobile Legends Esports Facebook Page.
