Team-based PvP shooter game Marvel Rivals officially released its much-anticipated Season 2 update on Friday, inviting players to the X-Men universe’s “Hellfire Gala”.

The new storyline revolves around an annual gathering on the living island of Krakoa for a night celebrating mutant culture, where participants must fight off Ultron and his army of machines.

Emma Frost and Ultron join the fight

The new update introduces Emma Frost, a significant figure in the “Hellfire Gala” comic books, and Ultron, a villainous artificial intelligence in a robot body, as new playable characters.

Emma’s kit showcases her mutant abilities, in particular the psychic ability to shred enemy health or shield teammates while tanking hits and resisting crowd control with her diamond form.

Ultron, on the other hand, will become a playable character later in the season.

While developers did not reveal his kit right away, leaks suggest that Ultron will be a Strategist with decent mobility and a capacity to both heal teammates’ health and damage enemies at range.

“Flower of Krakoa” battle pass and seasonal events

Marvel Rivals also announced the “Flower of Krakoa” battle pass, featuring cosmetics from the Marvel Comics canon as well as original ones designed for the game.

The new battle pass will include legendary costumes for Spider-Man and Cloak & Dagger; epic ones for Squirrel Girl, Black Widow, Hulk, and Captain America; and rare skins for Psylocke and Luna Snow.

Aside from that, cosmetic items such as emotes, nameplates, and sprays will be on offer.

While one must purchase the battle pass to redeem the aforementioned skins, free-to-play players can claim a rare skin for Magik and an epic one for Iron Fist, plus some cosmetic items.

Furthermore, players can participate in seasonal events in order to claim free costumes for Mantis, Scarlet Witch, and Namor.
