Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in hosting the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Week are expected to provide South Korea with valuable insights as it prepares for the 2025 APEC Summit.
The theme for APEC 2025 is “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper.”
Discussing APEC
South Korean lawmakers spoke with Vietnam’s Da Nang city officials on the subject during their working visit last week.
The delegation was led by Kim Gihyeon, a member of the National Assembly and the chair of the Special Committee on the 2025 APEC Summit, and Kim Seok Ki, the chair of the Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee.
According to Tran Chi Cuong, the vice chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, this event was the first time Vietnam had hosted a significant international event in a city outside of its capital.
The knowledge and experience gained from Da Nang’s successful hosting of APEC 2017 is expected to be helpful to South Korea as it prepares to host the APEC Summit in 2025.
“With the long-standing co-operation and continued exchanges and development, we believe this will further promote investment, economic ties, and friendly cultural exchanges between the people of Da Nang and Korean localities,” Cuong stated.
“We hope that with new policies, improved conditions, and untapped potential, Da Nang will continue to attract Korean investors, businesses, and visitors who want to explore, travel, and invest in the city’s development.”
Vietnam-South Korea relations
During the discussion, Vietnam’s Cuong also affirmed that South Korea and Vietnam have been collaborating consistently since 1992 in a number of fields, such as commerce, investment, economy, culture, education, and tourism.
Additionally, Da Nang plans to continue working with South Korean communities and partners that have connections to Vietnam’s Quang Nam province, including Osan, Yongin and Gwangyang.
South Korea is one of Vietnam’s largest trading and investment partners.
Cultural exchanges, people-to-people encounters, and labour cooperation have also enhanced the two nations’ ties, laying a solid foundation for future friendship and development.
