Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, two active members of the legendary tag team “The New Day”, have mutually parted ways with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

Their exit from the company was first reported by dirt sheets and was confirmed when the duo was moved to the alumni section of the WWE website.

Kingston and Woods formed “The New Day” in 2014 alongside Big E, and throughout the years the group has won 13 reigns as tag team champions.

The trio also has the longest “Raw” Tag Team Championship reign at 483 days.

“The New Day”, however, was reduced to a duo in 2022 when Big E suffered a broken neck during a match.

Big E currently serves as a panelist and analyst for WWE premium live events.

The duo’s individual success

Despite being known for their tag team tenures, both found accomplishments in their singles careers.

Kingston first debuted for the company in 2007, and had success in the mid-card throughout his career winning multiple reigns as Intercontinental Champion and United States Champion.

He reached main event success when he captured the WWE Championship during a feud against Daniel Bryan in 2019, an era dubbed as “Kofi-Mania”.

Woods first signed a developmental contract with the company in 2010, and officially debuted in 2013.

His first individual accolade came when he won the “King of the Ring” tournament in 2021.

Kingston and Woods break their silence

The duo issued separate statements on social media, two days after their release.

Kingston’s heartfelt message was accompanied by a video of him relaxing with one of his children.

“My story has been nothing short of remarkable and I am truly blessed to have had such an illustrious, accolade-laden and, most importantly, fun-filled career. I made my childhood dream become the most wonderful reality,” Kingston wrote.

“Most people go through life without ever experiencing a love like I have for Woods and E. That bond alone would have made this whole experience worth it.”

He also revealed that his main goal is to provide a comfortable life to his family, which the 44-year-old said he “achieved that goal and more”.

“The kid that was too small, short, skinny and scrawny was never supposed to make it in this land of giants… yet here we are.”

Woods reflected on his career and thanked everyone who was a part of his journey.

He also made reference to UpUpDownDown, a successful YouTube channel he created where he made videos of WWE superstars playing video games backstage.

“The New Day gave me a bond with @TrueKofi and @WWEBigE that I’ll cherish for life. You believed in us, even when our ideas were wild, and because of that, we got to show people that being unapologetically yourself is a strength.”

“And to everyone who has been part of this ride: thank you for believing in me. Thank you for letting me be Xavier Woods. Thank you for giving me the confidence… to walk away as Austin Creed,” the 39-year-old said, as his post was accompanied by a video of him in front of waterfalls.
