Prime Video has released the first teaser for “Elle”, a prequel television series exploring the teenage years of bubbly and sharp-witted lawyer Elle Woods before the events of the hit film “Legally Blonde”.

The upcoming series stars Lexi Minetree as the young Elle Woods and is set in 1995, years before the Harvard-bound fashion icon was introduced in the 2001 movie.

The teaser, starting with a slightly muted rendition of Hoku’s “Perfect Day,”  shows Elle celebrating her birthday in sunny Bel-Air before her parents, Eva (June Diane Raphael) and Wyatt (Tom Everett Scott), reveal the family will relocate to gloomy Seattle for two years.

Hot pink in a sea of flannel

The move places Elle, along with her dog Bruiser, in an unfamiliar environment dominated by flannel-wearing classmates while she remains committed to her trademark hot pink outfit.

“We meet her in 1995 as a fish in the tumultuous waters of high school, where she encounters tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and questionable fashion choices,” a logline from Amazon MGM Studios read.

”Through it all, Elle uses her family as a touchstone, and forms an even tighter bond to her mother, proving that they can get through anything life throws their way as long as they have each other. With each challenge she faces, Elle grows closer to the Elle Woods we know and love today,” it added.

Original “Legally Blonde” star Reese Witherspoon serves as an executive producer of the series and praised Minetree’s portrayal of the character earlier this year.

“Discovering Lexi Minetree and watching her step into Elle’s fabulous shoes has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my career,” Witherspoon said in a statement last January.

“I think our series’ themes of kindness, authenticity, and believing in yourself will resonate deeply with fans of the original films and new audiences alike,” she added.

Aside from Minetree, Raphael and Scott, the series also features Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker and Amy Pietz.

Other recurring cast members include Jessica Belkin, Danielle Chand, Matt Oberg, Chloe Wepper, Logan Shroyer, Sharon Taylor, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and James Van Der Beek.

“Elle” premieres on July 1 on Prime Video.
