Alexandra Eala’s light shone brighter than ever at Wimbledon.
Though her historic run ended with a fourth-round defeat to Jasmine Paolini, the Filipino tennis ace left the All England Club having further cemented her place among the sport’s most promising talents.
After the much-awaited game on Monday, where the Filipino tennis ace suffered a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 loss to Italy’s Paolini.
Eala shared that she hoped to do things differently during the match but acknowledged that her defeat was a valuable reminder of the fine margins that separate the world’s top tennis players.
Eala also heaped praise on Paolini for her performance, admitting that the Italian made her feel “uncomfortable in certain moments of the match.”
“But in the end, I think that’s just tennis. That’s also what’s beautiful about tennis. Every match, it’s different. You’re always finding solutions; the opponent is always finding ways to make you uncomfortable,” she said.
She also admitted that her serve during the match was below her level, but she kept a positive mindset and accepted the fact that there were days when everyone doesn’t play their best tennis.
“I understand that’s part of the job. I don’t think I’m going to be playing the best tennis of my life every single day,” she said.
Satisfied
Despite the setbacks and challenges, Eala refused to focus on the mistakes, saying she was satisfied with how she played the match and vowed to continue progressing.
“I’m really proud of how I handled things,” she said. “I think I just have to move forward and continue with my progress.”

A historic Wimbledon campaign
Eala’s Wimbledon journey this year was considered historic as she became the first Filipino to reach the Round of 16 at the grass-court Grand Slam.
She also dethroned defending Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek in the third round.
After the third round, Eala reached a new career-high ranking of No. 28 in the WTA live rankings.
By reaching the fourth round, Eala took home £300,000 in prize money.
Eala heads home before US swing
After her successful run at Wimbledon, Eala is set to come home to the Philippines to meet her Filipino fans before returning to competition in the United States later this month.
Titled “Home Court: The Alex Eala Fan Meet Experience,” the tennis star will meet her fans on July 15 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City.
The event will be hosted by Globe, where she serves as a Gen G Ambassador.
The event will see Eala share stories from her Wimbledon experience as well as her preparations for the next Grand Slam.
After this event, the 21-year-old will fly to Washington to compete at the Mubadala DC Open from July 27 to August 2.
From August 30 to September 13, Eala will compete at the US Open in New York.
