The Brazilian women’s volleyball team has officially secured a direct ticket for the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after defending its continental championship title.

Brazil defeated Argentina in three sets, 26-24, 25-19, 25-16, to retain their CSV Women’s South American Volleyball Championship title and secure their return trip to the Summer Games.

Gabriela Braga Guimarães, popularly known as Gabi, recorded 13 points during the championship match at the Maracanãzinho in Rio de Janeiro.

Gabi’s scoring output during Brazil’s title defence was supported by Julia Bergmann, who scored 12 points, and Tainara Santos, who contributed 11 points.

Brazil’s 2026 CSV crown also further cemented their dominance in the South American volleyball scene, as it would be the country’s 13th consecutive appearance in the Olympic Games.

Six spots left for LA women’s volleyball

Only six spots remain for the LA women’s volleyball competition after Brazil completed the continental qualifiers for the Summer Games.

Volleyball fans will now shift their focus to next year’s FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup as top teams compete for the three available spots for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Brazil will also compete in the 2027 Women’s World Cup, alongside Argentina and CSV bronze medallists Colombia.

The 2027 event will serve as preparation for continental winners Canada, Thailand, Egypt, Turkey, and Brazil as they face other nations who are aiming to secure Olympic tickets.

A total of 17 nations, including the top three countries from the continental championships, have already secured their place for the 2027 Volleyball World Cup.

The remaining three Olympic slots will be given to the top countries in the FIVB World Ranking who have not yet qualified for the 2027 tournament.

Men’s teams battle for Olympics tickets

Top men’s teams have also started their campaign to secure Olympics tickets from their respective continental championships.

Just like the women’s tournament, the United States have already secured an automatic spot for the volleyball event as the hosts of the 2028 Summer Games.

Japan has also booked their spot for the LA Olympics after being crowned as the winners of the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship.

Japan defeated Iran on September 13 to retain their continental title and secure a seat for the 2028 LA Olympics.

The USA and Japan will be joined by the winners of the ongoing 2026 Men’s NORCECA Volleyball Championship, 2026 Men’s South American Volleyball Championship, 2026 Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship, and 2026 Men’s European Volleyball Championship.

The two Olympic qualifiers will also compete in the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup in Poland.
