A royal ball is ready to unfold a fluttering yet intriguing love story from the Bridgerton family once more.

Netflix’s hit Regency drama is set to unveil a new tale of desire and longing in its fourth season – one laced with mystery, social divides and undeniable charm – led by the artistic and free-spirited Benedict Bridgerton.

This follows the enchanting success of “Bridgerton” Season 3, detailing the “friends to lovers” trope between Penelope and Colin.

The next instalment shifts the spotlight to Benedict, played by Luke Thompson, and his fateful meeting with an enigmatic woman at a dazzling masquerade ball.

Rising Australian-Korean actress Yerin Ha takes on the lead role of the said walking mystery whose true identity is a maid, igniting a forbidden romance influenced by Julia Quinn’s novel “An Offer from a Gentleman”.

A Cinderella story reimagined

Sophie’s character has been reconceptualised by the creative team with modern touches to give audiences a familiar yet different point of view.

For instance, using Baek for her surname for the series adaptation instead of Beckett, her original name in the novel, was an important change considered to provide a proper representation of Yerin Ha’s Korean heritage.

This decision to demonstrate inclusive storytelling earned positive feedback from fans and critics.

Showrunner Jess Brownell hypes up Benedict and Sophie’s story, saying that the journey of their fateful encounter will blend “fairy-tale wonder with a sharp commentary on privilege and self-discovery.”

“Their story captures the heart of Bridgerton – passion that transcends social boundaries,” Brownell teased in a Tudum interview.

Returning faces and fresh intrigue

Expecting a new season also means welcoming new characters who will mark a significant shift in the story.

Characters who will bring a twist to London’s implicated high society are formidable Lady Aramint Gun, played by Katie Lung; Rosamund Li, portrayed by Michelle Mao; and Posy Li, enacted by Isabella Wei.

Meanwhile, Nicola Coughlan, Claudia Jessie, Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley will be seen again to reprise their fan-favourite roles Penelope Bridgerton, Eloise, Anthony and Kate, respectively.

Fans are eagerly anticipating what will happen next in the mended friendship between Penelope and Eloise, especially after witnessing their nerve-wracking confrontations before Pen’s happy ending.

Powerful and iconic characters Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh), Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) and Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) will also return in the next season.

When to expect the season

Times Entertainment confirmed that Netflix has set 2026 as its release year for Bridgerton Season 4 and is currently in post-production after wrapping up its filming in June.

A split-season launch is what industry insiders suggest – Part 1 on January 29, 2026, followed by Part 2 on February 26, 2026 – to achieve a parallel success of Season 3’s rollout, according to a related article from What’sOnNetflix.

The show’s poster on Netflix Netherlands’ official Instagram account also hinted at the dates.

Love, art and revolution

Just like the past three seasons, Benedict’s season is written to showcase not just romance but other important factors that build his story.

The challenges he faces to reconcile passion, artistry and social duty will shed light on the show’s emotional core.

Bridgerton’s next chapter is progressing to blend a visual feast of opulent ballroom scenes and outstanding costumes and a tale of love filled with chemistry that openly resists the rules of the town.
