History has been made in the latest “NXT vs. TNA Showdown” event as Jeff and Matt Hardy now hold both the TNA World Tag Team Championship and the NXT Tag Team Championship.
This is the first time the tag team championships of both companies are held by one team.
The win comes as the Hardys, the holders of the TNA World Tag Team Championship, beat NXT tag-team champions DarkState in a Winner Take All match on Tuesday.
At the beginning of the match, all four members of DarkState entered the ring and assaulted the tag-team veterans, but the Hardys quickly fended off the attack, while the referee controlled the chaos.
Jeff and Matt then dominated, with both men setting up an early “Poetry in Motion” to Dion Lennox.
However, the villainous DarkState utilised crafty tag-team tactics as they countered a “Twist of Fate” from Matt Hardy.
It was all DarkState from there, as they focused on attacking Jeff Hardy and isolated him from his brother.
Jeff then managed to slip away from his opponents, hitting a “Whisper in the Wind” to both Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin, as he tagged in Matt.
In the final stage of the bout, Matt hit a “Twist of Fate” to both members of DarkState, tagging in his brother to finish the job with a “Swanton Bomb” to Lennox.
Their win also marks the first time they have held the NXT Tag Team Championship in their legendary career, and they are also the first team from the “Attitude Era” to win the belt.

A new championship to add to the collection
During a previous interview with FOX 9, the Hardys targeted the NXT belts to add to their expansive collection of championships that they have won throughout their career that stems back to the 90s.
“When you talk about titles and us wanting to cement our legacy as one of the greatest tag teams of all time. I still think that, with this interesting partnership between TNA and WWE, I would love to see us mix it up and win some WWE tag team titles again,” Matt stated.
“There are those NXT tag titles. You know, a couple of months back, we beat the NXT Tag Team Champions… And we never got a deserved shot,” he added, referring to their win against former NXT Tag Team Champions FrAxiom.
The Hardy Boyz had no opportunity to compete for the NXT Tag Team Championship during their WWE careers, as the two are main roster staples.
This victory knocks it off their list of accomplishments for their already influential careers and significantly strengthens the NXT roster.
