Chucky creator blasts Nicki Minaj for using horror doll for pro-MAGA post

‘Child’s Play’ creator Don Mancini slammed rapper Nicki Minaj for portraying Chucky as a Republican supporter after she shared an apparently AI-generated image of the horror character wearing a “Vote Red” badge on Election Day.

The ‘Pink Friday’ artist posted the image on X on November 3, alongside the caption “HAPPY ELECTION DAY!!!” The image showed the red-haired killer doll in a pink suit, with a pin encouraging people to vote Republican.

Mancini quickly clapped back, insisting that Chucky would not align with the Republican movement.

“IMPOSTER,” Mancini replied. “CHUCKY IS PART OF THE BLUE WAVE THAT WILL WASH AWAY ALL THE CORRUPTION.”

Chucky is pro trans, anti-ICE

In a separate post, the filmmaker explained why he rejected the rapper’s use of the character, pointing to Chucky’s family and the franchise’s representation of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Chucky has a trans kid. Chucky protects the dolls. Chucky is anti-ICE. Chucky says ‘A BLUE WAVE is coming, as BLUE as my fuckin’ eyes!’” he wrote, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Mancini also shared a photo of a Chucky doll holding a Glen/Glenda figurine.

Glenda, who sometimes goes by Glen, is the child of Chucky and his bride, Tiffany.

The character first appeared in the 2004 film “Seed of Chucky,” which explores Glen/Glenda’s fluid gender identity and expression.

Chucky’s child also appeared in the “Chucky” television adaptation, which Mancini created.

In an early episode, the killer doll says, “I have a queer kid,” referring to Glen/Glenda.

Chucky’s new hairstyle

Mancini later taunted Minaj by sharing another image of Chucky sporting blue hair instead of his trademark reddish locks.

“Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way!” he wrote, adding the hashtag #bluewave.

Mancini created the “Child’s Play” franchise in 1988. He also developed the “Chucky” television series, which ran for three seasons on SYFY and USA Network from 2021 to 2024 before being canceled in September of that year.

The most recent feature film in the franchise was “Cult of Chucky,” released in 2017.

Nicki’s history with Chucky

This is not the first time Minaj has used Chucky imagery on social media.

The rapper has referenced the character for years, including in her iconic verse on Kanye West’s 2010 song “Monster,” where she raps, “And I’ll say, bride of Chucky, it’s child’s play/ Just killed another career, it’s a mild day.”

In 2019, Minaj and her controversial husband, Kenneth Petty, also dressed as Chucky and Tiffany for Halloween.

More recently, she has used the doll in posts targeting Democrats and criticizing their positions, including a January post attacking journalist Don Lemon over his coverage of anti-ICE protests.

Minaj has increasingly aligned herself with United States President Donald Trump and his MAGA supporters in recent months.

Last October 27, the rapper appeared at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, with Trump to endorse Republican candidates Mike Rogers and John James.

Mancini’s pushback happens amid the 2026 US midterm elections, in which Democrats are poised to retake the majority in the US Senate and House of Representatives.
