The details of the much-anticipated John Cena Classic were announced in the latest episode of Raw, as the tournament is set at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Cena himself announced the specifics, having returned since Backlash in May where he initially revealed the tournament.
In Raw, which was held in Brooklyn, Cena said that he had three announcements to make regarding the showpiece.
The “Never Seen 17” first said that the John Cena Classic will take place in one of two Raws on December 14.
“December 14th is going to make history because for the first time ever, there will be two Raws on one Monday night,” Cena said.
He said that an episode will air from Perth, and a “special edition” of Raw will be held from Orlando, Florida in Disney World.
John Cena Championship
Cena then unveiled the prize of the tournament, the WWE John Cena Championship.
“I have my heart and soul in this event, if you look at this award there’s me. My name is on this event, this event encapsulates everything I stand for: perseverance, hustle, loyalty, respect,” Cena said.
“You wanna talk hustle? A championship is a symbol of hard work.”
Lastly, Cena then announced the first invitee of the tournament, Cody Rhodes.
Rhodes then made his entrance, as Cena said that the event “is everything you (Rhodes) are and everything you stand for.”
“I love you, bud. And I’m so glad to officially invite you to the John Cena Classic.”
He also said that he will appear in future episodes of Raw, SmackDown and NXT to announce more invitees.
People’s choice
During the initial announcement back in May, Cena said that the tournament will feature “the best of today” fighting against the “best of tomorrow.”
Cena pledged that he is aiming for a “certain level of excellence” and will do everything to make the event special.
He also said fans will vote to crown the champion of the tournament.
“A superstar might not win their match, but their hustle could earn your respect, win your heart, win your vote and you can still crown them the John Cena Classic Champion.”
