On his field visit to subsidiaries of the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals and Medical Supplies, Egypt’s Public Enterprises Minister Mohamed El-Shimy reiterated the ministry’s dedication to modernising state-owned pharmaceutical enterprises, enhancing their role in guaranteeing national drug security and bringing them into line with international industry standards.
The minister underlined continuous efforts to maximise resources, integrate cutting-edge technology and modernise manufacturing lines in order to boost productivity and maintain supplies for the local market.
Modernisation key component in government’s strategy
The modernisation push is a key component of the country’s industrial localisation strategy, guaranteeing the continued accessibility of high-quality, reasonably priced medications.
The visit in late March included stops to Memphis Pharmaceuticals, Nile Pharmaceuticals and Arabian Drug Company, with an emphasis on new facility improvements meant to boost competitiveness, manufacturing capacity and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines, Daily News Egypt reported.
This project is a component of the ministry’s larger plan to achieve international quality standards and strengthen Egypt’s pharmaceutical security.

Likewise, the crucial importance that state-owned pharmaceutical firms play in the healthcare system was underscored by Ali El-Ghamrawy, the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) chairperson.
He praised their dedication to manufacturing high-quality, potent medications that satisfy international standards and emphasised that continued modernisation initiatives will bolster their competitive advantage even more.
He also underlined the significance of boosting pharmaceutical exports, assisting Egypt’s healthcare industry and guaranteeing ongoing access to necessary medications.
The ministry is working with the EDA to increase efforts to comply with GMP regulations as El-Shimy commended the advancements made in infrastructure and facility upgrades.
He further noted how these developments raise Egyptian pharmaceutical companies’ competitiveness and increase their potential for export to international markets.
Nonetheless, the government’s plan continues to place a strong emphasis on expanding its global reach, and state-owned pharmaceutical enterprises are aggressively doing so in Africa, the Middle East and other regions.
