Filipino singer-songwriter Janine Berdin has made her first solo entry on the Billboard charts after her song “What if I miss you for the rest of my life?” entered the Philippines Hot 100 this week.
After going viral online for her passionate and gut-wrenching performance on Wish 107.5, the song immediately gained widespread praise from a new audience.
It also attracted the attention of international artists including Demi Lovato, Lauren Jauregui, Doechii and SZA.
A hit song and a hilarious backstory
The former Tawag ng Tanghalan (TNT) champion’s song is now ranked at No. 78 in the chart’s week of June 6.
This is Berdin’s second overall entry in the chart, with her collaborative work with singer Adie, “Mahika”, being the first.
Meanwhile, her live version of “What if I miss you for the rest of my life?” has gained around 4.7 million views on Wish 107.5’s YouTube since it came out on May 18.
The alternative-pop ballad, along with her powerful singing and the emotional lyrics, led to her significant popularity.
Berdin humorously captioned an Instagram post about the performance, “I wrote this song while sh*tting on the toilet & now I got to sing it on the Wish Bus.”
She added in a Facebook post in Filipino, “I forgot my cellphone, and I had nothing to do, so I broke down and just wrote the song.”
Fans jokingly welcomed the backstory due to the song’s incredibly high vocal belts.
Demi Lovato, SZA take notice
In one of Berdin’s Wish Bus snippets on Instagram, Demi Lovato commented: “Holy sh*t.”
Fifth Harmony star Lauren Jauregui commented, “Siiiing,” while SZA liked the post and wrote, “Kill Bill.”
Rapper Doechii also reposted it on her TikTok page.
American internet personality and musician Peet Montzingo added to the comments, saying, “Yeah… Imma silent repost.”

A love song for ‘idiots’
The song is part of her debut album “LAB SONGS NG MGA TANGA,” (“Love Songs for Idiots”), which was released last year.
‘What if I miss you for the rest of my life?’ talks about a painful loss, expressed well by Berdin’s breathtaking, emotionally-charged bridge.
On May 25, she performed the song before a live audience at The Cozy Cove in Baguio City, a venue that has previously hosted prominent OPM acts such as Cup of Joe.
