“[Iain Glen] has gravitas. But at the same time, he can let loose, which is important for the role of Leonard Wood,” says director Jerrold Tarog.

The TBA Studios made another wave online after it announced the newest actor to join its historical biopic film Quezon.

Through a social media post on Monday, the production company revealed that the Scottish actor Iain Glen, famous for his role in Game of Thrones, will be joining the Jericho Rosales-led cast.

“Iain Glen, famously known as ‘Ser Jorah’ in Game of Thrones, is set to portray Governor-General Leonard Wood in the highly-anticipated historical film, Quezon,” the caption read on its Instagram post.

Attached with the post is a short video of Glen doing a table read along with Rosales (who will play the titular role), Karylle (as Quzeon’s wife, Aurora Quezon) and Mon Confiado (who will reprise his role as Emilio Aguinaldo), among others.

Governor-General Leonard Wood: A key character

The 63-year-old international actor will be giving life to the character of Governor-General Leonard Wood, a United States Army major who served a critical role in Quezon’s quest for Philippine independence from the US.

“We are very honoured to have Iain Glen in Quezon,” TBA Studios president and chief operating officer Daphne O. Chiu said in a report by ABS-CBN News.

“This film is shaping up to be one of the biggest productions in Philippine cinema, with one of the largest casts ever assembled.

“We are excited to share with Iain – and the rest of the world – the production scale and level of artistry that Filipino filmmakers are capable of.”

‘Quezon’ as third instalment in ‘Bayaniverse’

The movie is the third instalment in the TBA Studios’ cinematic Bayaniverse, following box office hits Heneral Luna, portrayed by John Arcilla in 2015, and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, played by Paulo Avelino in 2018, all helmed by Jerrold Tarog.

The film will focus on Quezon’s turbulent campaign against then-President Emilio Aguinaldo.

It will also chronicle his life as a Filipino soldier and lawyer who served as President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944.

Other stars joining the movie are Benjamin Alves, who will play the younger Quezon, Romnick Sarmenta as Sergio Osmeña, JC Santos as Manuel Roxas and Cris Villanueva as the older Joven Hernando – the only fictional character in the film series.
