A streaming platform is currently developing a modern TV adaptation of the noughties teen classic film ‘Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging’.
The series will be based around Louise Rennison’s original book series ‘Confessions of Georgia Nicolson’ and is being developed by an as-yet-unknown “major streaming platform”.
The casting call had to be closed early on July 6 after “phenomenal demand”.
Filming for the adaptation of the first novel ‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging’ is to begin next year for an expected 2028 release.
Confessions of Georgia Nicolson
Published in 1996, ‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging’ by the late author Louise Rennison was the first novel in the series ‘Confessions of Georgia Nicolson’.
It quickly became an international bestseller and was translated into dozens of languages.
The 10-book series revolves around the life of Georgia Nicolson, a funny yet flawed 14-year-old girl trying to navigate her way through the trials and tribulations of the awkward early teenage phase.
With her friends and Angus, her wild cat, by her side, boy-obsessed Georgia explores sexuality, early womanhood, and friendship.
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
The 2008 film adaption, titled ‘Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging’, starred Georgia Groome as protagonist Georgia Nicolson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in his breakout role as “Sex God” Robbie Jennings.
The film was a combination of Rennison’s first two novels, ‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging’ and ‘It’s OK, I’m Wearing Really Big Knickers’.
Whilst it received positive-to-mixed reviews and only a limited UK-centric box office release at the time, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging has garnered a reputation as one of Britain’s top noughties teen cult classics and continues to have a lasting cultural impact.
This is widely believed to be due to the film’s (and more generally, the book’s) authentic portrayal of teenage life in the 2000s.

Controversy
This accurate depiction of teenage life – and more specifically sexuality – continues to incite controversy.
In the United States, the novel has been amongst the most banned or censored in schools due to its references to LGBTQ+ themes and sex and sexuality.
Utah’s 2022 law on “Sensitive Materials In Schools” led to ‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging being pulled from the shelves of the largest school district in the state.
“Get young girls talking”
Before her death in 2016, Rennison defended the novel’s content after UK teachers raised concerns, saying it was based on her own experiences and discussions with girls at the time.
She also warned against the proliferation of online pornography and the effects on young people, saying her books offered a better introduction to sexuality.
“My books get young girls talking,” she said, “and they talk about what they like and don’t like, what they want to do and don’t want to do”.
She also described it as “dangerous and frightening” that “a lot of the pornography online could make young guys believe that they are always in control, that they should be”.
This sentiment is still echoed by many today as the issues covered by Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging remain as relevant as ever for today’s teens.
More information on the TV series, including casting and streaming service, is expected in the coming months.
