On July 29, Amazon MGM Studios released the trailer for Michael B. Jordan’s latest film, ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’.
The ‘Sinners’ star and recent Oscar-recipient returns to the big screen as the lead, playing the titular Thomas Crown.
However, Jordan also takes a seat in the director’s chair for the first time since his directorial debut, ‘Creed III’ (2023).
In a game of cat-and-mouse, billionaire Crown steals a painting amidst another heist’s failure and his own love affair.
Not another reboot
The 2027 film will mark the third iteration of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’, following the 1968 original starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway and Pierce Brosnan’s stint in 1999.
Amidst a cinematic era of copious reboots and film adaptations, Jordan wanted to distinguish his version of the film.
“I didn’t want a reboot. I wanted a reimagination,” Jordan told Variety last year.
“The first two films were about rich white guys stealing for fun. That doesn’t land today,” Jordan continued as he promised higher stakes, a more personal approach, and the fashion and romantic flair preserved.

The Thomas Crown team
Jordan is joined by Adria Arjona (‘Andor’, ‘Hit Man’) to make up the reimagining’s romantic duo after previous casting Taylor Russell (‘Waves’) exited the project.
Other cast members include Kenneth Branagh (‘Belfast’), Lily Gladstone (‘Killers of the Flower Moon’) and Danai Gurira (‘Black Panther’).
The script was written by Drew Pearce (‘The Fall Guy’, ‘Iron Man 3’), based on a previous draft by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson.
The film’s score will be composed by Academy Award and eight-time-Grammy-Award winning musician Jon Batiste.
‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ is scheduled for release on March 5, 2027.
