Actress Rebecca Ferguson had a gloomy update for the fans of science-fiction film “Dune: Part Three”, confirming her character will not play a big role in the forthcoming movie.

Ferguson played the character of Lady Jessica Atreides, the mother of the Lisan Al-Gaib, Paul Atreides.

She has been instrumental to Paul’s rise to power among the warrior tribe of the sad planet of Arrakis known as Fremen.

The third and final installment of the film series is set to explore the aftermath of Paul’s religious war against the Great Houses of the Landsraad after overthrowing Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV following their brief confrontation in Arrakeen.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the three films are based on the popular sci-fi novel “Dune”, written by author Frank Herbert.

Just one scene for Lady Jessica

In an interview with ExtraTV, Ferguson revealed that her screen time will be limited to just one scene, which has been shown already in a trailer of the movie.

“Mate, I’ve got one scene, and I think you’ve seen it. It’s literally in the trailer, but I can’t wait to see it. The script’s amazing,” she said.

While this would appear irregular to fans who were impressed with Ferguson’s strong portrayal of the former Bene Gesserit in the last two movies, those who are familiar with the books know that Lady Jessica will have a diminished role as the story goes on, especially after Paul’s goals come to fruition.

In her guesting on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast earlier this year, Ferguson said she thought her role would be completely cut off from the third film, considering Lady Jessica’s minimal importance to the plot before Villeneuve opted to bring her back for the third film.

“That was a weird feeling,” said Ferguson. “Walking onto a set that you know so well, and knowing that you don’t have a part of it.”

A star-studded cast

While Lady Jessica is set to take a back seat in the upcoming film, returning and new characters will give new flavor to the film’s plot.

Timothée Chalamet will reprise his role as Paul, the supposed messiah prophesied to bring Fremen to the paradise.

Zendaya will also return as Chani, Paul’s Fremen lover, while Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan will embrace a more significant role in the plot this time.

Jason Momoa will also return as Duncan Idaho.

Among the new stars that joined the cast, Robert Pattinson takes the role of the mysterious Scytale, while Anya Taylor-Joy will play Paul’s young sister, Alia Atreides.
