Newly-signed Ricky Saints defied the numbers game as he won his first championship in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), beating Shawn Spears in the main event of Tuesday’s edition of NXT to become the new WWE North American Champion.

Saint debuted just 33 days ago, making the win the quickest time someone has made their debut and proceeded to win a championship, NXT commentator Vic Joseph commented.

Ethan Page formerly held the record of 40 days after beating Trick Williams for the NXT Championship at last year’s “Heatwave” event.

Spears, the leader of the villainous “The Culling,” finished his stint as the North American Champion after only 28 days.

During Saints’ bout against Spears, the latter was accompanied by his faction mates, Brooks Jensen, Niko Vance and Izzi Dame, who all tried to help Spears cheat to make things harder for Saints.

In the final sequence of the match, Spears managed to hit Starks in the head with the championship belt without the referee noticing, however, it was not enough.

Saints kicked out of a pin attempt and proceeded to take out all of Spears’ allies, going on a blitz and capping off the match with his signature move, “Rochambeau.”

All Ego stakes his claim

Ricky’s celebration however was interrupted as he was blindsided by Page.

The newly-crowned champion was laid to waste, as “All Ego” picked up the belt and raised it to the air with a big smile.

Page has notably taken issue with the signing of Saints, as he confronted the newly-signed star during his contract signing ceremony in a previous episode of NXT.

“As big as a superstar you are, even you won’t be able to reach the bar that I set for people coming into NXT,” Page stated.
