The first-ever Dogue Philippines cover features Banca, an indigenous Philippine dog breed called the “asong gubat” or “forest dog.”

From rescue dog to Vogue cover

The debut of “Dogue” Philippines highlights rescue dogs and Banca’s story.

Banca was first encountered by its owner, celebrity photographer Shaira Luna, in July in Laguna with a metal chain tied around its neck.

After its chain was removed, a severe infection plagued Banca’s wounds.

Luna, who owns 10 dogs, brought the pup to a veterinarian to be treated and then adopted her.

According to Luna, Banca has a playful and affectionate personality.

“Growing up around the lakes and highlands of Cavinti, Laguna, Banca the asong gubat or Philippine forest dog spent her days climbing, swimming, and visiting the guests at a local cabin, where #ShairaLuna first encountered her in July.”

“Now living comfortably in Shaira’s 10-dog household, the young pup is easily twice the size of the rest of her pack. Still, it doesn’t stop her from giving visitors full body hugs, as she understands that she is finally, fully at home,” Vogue Philippines stated on its Instagram account.

Vogue PH looks for more pawsome covers

Every year, Vogue publishes a feature called “Dogue” that features famous people and their dogs along with a digital cover.

The American edition launched the first “Dogue” in 2024, which has since become a regular feature.

Vogue Philippines also announced its first-ever casting call for dogs ready for their Vogue moment.

“We’re searching for exceptional dogs who have what it takes to become a Dogue cover star, joining a celebration of the country’s most beloved and unforgettable dogs.”

“Whether they’re impossibly photogenic, endlessly charming, or simply impossible not to love, we want to meet the dog that steals every room – and every heart,” the magazine stated.

According to Vogue Philippines, its editors will judge the entries based on the following criteria: Photo composition (50%), dog’s personality conveyed through the photo (25%), and good “dogueness” (25%).
