Sydney Sweeney’s versatility as an actress and producer is tested this year as she jumps from playing a role in front of a camera to working side by side with film directors to bring a cinematic touch to a famous video game.

Six of her projects, consisting of films and television series, are already in pre-production, but the latest addition to the list just proves that her growth in the entertainment industry is just getting started.

Producer mode: ON

It is truly a surprise to have Universal confirm a fresh collaboration between Sweeney and renowned American film director Michael Bay on the film adaptation of “Outrun,” Sega’s famous arcade video game.

Her producing skills will work their magic alongside Bay’s directing powers to bring this project to life.

The man behind the hit action sci-fi “Transformers” will also produce the film together with Brad Fuller and Toru Nakahara, while Jason Rothwell handles the scriptwriting.

Deadline Magazine described the upcoming movie by writing, ‘Plot details are vague’.

Sega’s OutRun series is a franchise that originated from some of the most successful arcade games in the world during the 1980s. The game pioneered a new genre of driving games and spawned an electronic music subgenre aptly called ‘OutRun.’”

A gamer’s expectations for this film are surely to start high considering how Universal has established itself as a pioneer in the field of video game adaptations.

For instance, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which was distributed by Universal, grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide, according to Variety.

However, Sweeney’s acting talents will not be featured in the “Outrun” adaptation due to her commitment to six other projects: “Echo Valley,” “The Housemaid,” a new season of “Euphoria,” “The Masque of the Red Death,” the “Christy Martin Biopic” and “Scandalous.”

A ‘Housemaid’ full of secrets

A sneak peek of Paul Feig’s film adaptation of the psychological thriller novel “The Housemaid” at CinemaCon in early April left attendees curious and in chills.

“The Housemaid,” which is the first and best-selling book in the hit trilogy of Freida McFadden, is coming to theaters on December 25, 2025.

Sweeney plays Millie, a housemaid for an apparently picture-perfect family, in the movie.

She stars together with acclaimed actress Amanda Seyfried, who portrays her emotionally unstable boss, Nina, and Brandon Sklenar as her endearing husband.

It turns out that this affluent couple is not what they seem to be, and Millie has secrets of her own that she would rather keep concealed.

During Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon, Sweeney remarked: “I love when there are so many unexpected twists and turns.”

Seyfried shared her co-star’s excitement about the surprises and shocks that viewers might expect.

“I got to go to places that I never expected to go to,” Seyfried said. “We reached places that I’ve never been able to as an actor…we created some wacky scenes…the stuff that happened when the cameras were rolling was bananas.”

“The Housemaid” is somewhat of a change for Feig, as he became a dependable hitmaker with comedies like “Bridemaids” and “The Heat,” as well as witty thrillers “A Simple Favor” and its planned follow-up, “Another Simple Favor.”

Growing mark in Hollywood

Sweeney’s appearances in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus” have seen her rise to popularity in Hollywood, where she has gained major recognition.

She has achieved both commercial and critical success, earning nominations for Emmys and making it onto the A-list.

A memorable milestone of hers was after her performance as the female lead in “Anyone But You,” which highly contributed to the film’s domination in the global box office, making her an incredibly ‘sought-after actress.

She has transitioned from acting to producing, most notably through her production company Fifty-Fifty Films.

High-profile magazine covers and endorsements have further cemented Sweeney’s position as a huge star, making her image a valuable asset.
