Puerto Rican megastar Bad Bunny has been tapped to headline the Super Bowl halftime show next year.

On February 8, 2026, the singer and rapper will perform in Santa Clara, California, on the most important night for American football fans.

The highly awaited appearance will be in the spotlight after this year’s halftime performer, American rapper Kendrick Lamar, lit up the audience earlier in February.

‘This is for my people’

Bad Bunny reacted to the announcement by releasing a statement through the NFL.

“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown,” he said.

“This is for my people, my culture, and our history.”

He then added in Spanish, his native language: “Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el halftime show del Super Bowl.”

MAGA’s fury unleashed

After the announcement, several MAGA (Make America Great Again) figures commented on the choice and raged against it.

Earlier in the year, Bad Bunny announced his 2025-2026 world tour, which will touch down in South America, Asia, and Europe.

The star decided not to include any US dates in the list.

He explained in an interview with i-D Magazine that the reason was due to the fear that ICE (Immigration, Customs and Enforcement) agents could be outside his concert venues.

“It’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about,” he added.

Commentator Benny Johnson, a Trump supporter and conservative YouTuber, slammed the NFL’s choice on X: “This is Bad Bunny. Massive Trump hater, anti-ICE activist, no songs in English,” he said.

“The NFL is self-destructing year after year,” he added.

However, Bad Bunny asserted his choice was “not out of hate.”

“I’ve performed there many times. […] All of the shows have been magnificent. I’ve enjoyed connecting with Latinos who have been living in the US,” he remarked.
