The fifth and last season of Amazon Prime’s “The Boys” will premiere on April 8, fans learned on Sunday.
New episodes will be released each week, with the highly anticipated series finale debuting on May 20.
The sarcastic superhero show will be back for one last time to wrap up the bloody battle between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (a majestic Anthony Starr) but, as the series taught its fans since its first season, no character is safe.
“Very soon the last chapter will unfold. You’re not reaaady,” Starr posted on Instagram.
A ‘Supernatural’ reunion
The trailer released on Sunday shows some old faces and some new, exciting entries.
Series creator Eric Kripke invited some old friends to the show by casting ‘Supernatural’ actors Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, who are now joining Jensen Ackles in the ‘Boys’ cast.
Ackles is returning as Homelander’s dad, Soldier Boy (‘The Boys’’’s politically incorrect version of Marvel’s “Captain America”), but Padalecki’s role is still under wraps, although he can be seen making a brief appearance in the trailer.
Padalecki and Ackles played brothers Sam and Dean Winchester in CW’s “Supernatural”.
The ‘family business’ show saw the two brothers hunting demons and monsters.
It lasted 15 seasons, gaining a huge fanbase since its premiere in 2005.

‘Big stuff’s gonna happen’
The official synopsis released by Prime Video reveals: “It’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims.”
“But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it.”
“It’s the climax, people,” the synopsis says at the end. “Big stuff’s gonna happen.”
In Season 4’s finale (spoilers ahead!) most of the gang is captured, while Butcher takes a dose of Compound V, basically signing his own demise.
The events of ‘Gen V’ – ‘The Boys’ spin-off set at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting – bleed into the plot of Season 5, with storylines blending towards – I’m sure – a fiery ending.
