Paul Thomas Anderson’s new black comedy ‘One Battle After Another’ was the biggest hero when the 2026 Golden Globes film nominations were announced on Monday.
The winners will be revealed during the ceremony, which will take place in Beverly Hills, California, on the 11th of January 2026.
‘One Battle After Another’, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, led the field with nine nominations, earning a nod, among other accolades, in the Best Film – Music or Comedy category.
The film follows the story of Bob (DiCaprio), a former radical, as he attempts to rescue his teenage daughter, who has been abducted by an old nemesis.
Four of the actors in the film’s cast were also nominated.
DiCaprio and rising star Chase Infiniti, who plays his daughter in the movie, both received nominations for Best Male Actor in a Musical or Comedy and Best Female Actress in the same category.
American singer-turned-actress Teyana Taylor was recognised in the Best Supporting Female Actor category, and Hollywood icon Sean Penn landed the nomination for the same accolade in the male actor section.
Anderson also received a nomination in the Best Director category.

A ‘Wicked’ year
‘Wicked’ stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo both earned a second nomination for the second year in a row for their roles as Glinda and Elphaba in the blockbuster musical.
While ‘Wicked: For Good’, the sequel of the hugely-successful ‘Wicked’ (2024) was snubbed and excluded from the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category, a double nomination is a rare feat.
Erivo and Grande, sure enough, are the first two actors from the same movie to be consecutively nominated for two years in a row.
“It is definitely just as exciting [as last year’s nomination] and kind of blindsiding,” popstar Grande told The Hollywood Reporter.
“You don’t expect something like this, let alone [for it] to happen twice for the same role. So I’m just deeply honoured. I’m just really moved by it.”
Vampire blockbuster ‘Sinners’ also collected major nominations (including one for Best Motion Picture – Drama), while ‘Sentimental Value’, directed by Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier and starring Stellan Skarsgaard, earned eight nominations across the board.
