Campy US pop star Chappell Roan has landed herself in hot water this week after reportedly leaving footballer Jorginho Frello’s stepdaughter, an 11-year-old fan of hers, in tears after her security got involved.

In an Instagram post, the former Arsenal and Chelsea player claimed that Roan’s security team berated the family, leaving his stepdaughter “extremely shaken and cried a lot”.

The incident is said to have taken place in the hotel both the family and Chappel Roan were staying at for the Lollapalooza festival in São Paulo, Brazil.

In response, the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, publicly stated that the ‘Hot to Go!’ singer would not be allowed to perform at the Todo Mundo No Rio festival in his city.

“Without your fans, you would be nothing”

Writing on his Instagram story, the footballer said that Ada Law, Jude Law’s daughter and Jorginho’s stepdaughter, was excited to see Chappell Roan perform before realising they were both at the same hotel.

“My daughter, like any child, recognised her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was really her,” saying that the 11-year-old went past the singer’s table to check.

“She didn’t say anything, she didn’t ask for anything,” he adds.

Not long after, one of Chappell Roan’s security guards came over, he writes.

According to Jorginho, the security guard then “aggressively” berated him and his wife, Cat Cavelli, in front of their daughter, telling them they should not allow Ada to “disrespect” or “harass” the singer.

The member of Chappel Roan’s security also threatened to lodge a complaint with the hotel about them, claims Jorginho.

Jorginho labelled the reaction “completely disproportionate,” noting that as a star himself, he understands “respect and boundaries,” but “without your fans, you would be nothing.”

He then called upon Chappell Roan’s fans saying that the singer “does not deserve your affection”.

Chappell Roan’s response

During her Lollapalooza set, the singer openly thanked her security team.

“I’m so grateful so thank you and thank you to my crew and my security and my band and everyone behind the scenes this takes a lot of people so thank you”.

In a now-deleted post on Instagram, the singer addressed the situation, stating she has “always been very clear about my boundaries,” and that “outside of work mode (…) I am a person, and I am allowed to exist privately”.

She goes on to say that this does not take away from the “love and gratitude I have for my supporters”.

“I appreciate the people who respect boundaries and understand that admiration does not equal access”.

“Own your fame and cheer up”

This is not the first time the singer has been embroiled in controversy over her interactions with fans and the media.

Earlier this month, British musician Boy George called on Chappell Roan to “own your fame” and “cheer up” following her viral confrontations with paparazzi in Paris.

The singer first shot to fame with her hit single ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ in 2023, before her sleeper hits ‘Pink Pony Club’, ‘Hot to Go!’, and ‘Femininomenon’ took off in 2024.

This meteoritic rise has left the singer with little time to adjust to the spotlight, according to come commentators.

After deleting her response on Instagram, there has been no other official comment from Chappell Roan or her team about the Jorginho incident.
