Reigning AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman reportedly suffered a knee injury during his AEW Dynamite match, where he triumphantly defended his title against Rush.
The injury is believed to be a hyperextension, and reports indicate that he has not been medically cleared to compete in other matches or travel while undergoing treatment.
Despite the injury occurring during an intense match, MJF was still able to retain his title on a dramatic evening of AEW action.
The champion’s victory celebrations were short-lived, however, as Mark Briscoe entered the ring to confront him.
In the process, a massive brawl broke out, with Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly and others entering the fight – leading MJF to seek safety.
Beyond Wrestling event cancelled
Prior to the injury, MJF had been set to compete for Beyond Wrestling on Friday, June 5.
That match-up was to be against Bobby Orlando and was meant to be his last independent show – but it has now been cancelled.
Although the severity of the injury is not yet determined, MJF is expected to take some time off for a full recovery.
No date has been announced for his return to the ring, and there is also no mention of how the injury will affect the AEW World Champion’s upcoming plans.
