Fans around the world welcomed the return of former NCT member Mark Lee to the stage as he sang during the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The appearance marked one of the artist’s first major public performances since departing NCT, a Korean pop (K-pop) group, earlier this year and embarking on a new chapter in his solo career.
Held at the Heydar Aliyev Center and organized as part of the United Nations Environment Program’s (UNEP) global World Environment Day observance, the event brought together international leaders, environmental advocates, cultural figures and music fans.
Lee took the stage before a worldwide audience and performed his unreleased song, “Ready or Not,” receiving an enthusiastic response from attendees and viewers following the livestream.

Lee sends ‘powerful message’
In the comments section of a video uploaded by Lee on YouTube featuring him singing, fans expressed their excitement and praised the singer’s confidence, artistry, and emotional delivery.
Some highlighted the symbolic importance of seeing the performer headline a global event focused on environmental awareness and collective action.
“I hope people realize that the way he showed up as naturally as possible perfectly embodies the message of embracing your own nature, embracing change and embracing simplicity over fashion overconsumption especially on World Environment Day. That alone is a powerful message,” one netizen wrote, while also pointing out his simple outfit.
“Mark, I really respect your faith. It’s inspiring to see you true to your beliefs and follow the path God has created for you. Thank you for being such a positive influence!” another fan added.
Meanwhile, others described the moment as a milestone in Lee’s career, celebrating his return to live performance and his transition into a new era as an independent artist.
“Couldn’t be more proud of you, Mark. I hope you enjoy every chapter of your life from now on and we will still always be right there on days you need positive energy or support,” one fan commented.
“I’m crying here, I love his writing, it’s so beautiful. You did so well yesterday!” another added.
The World Environment Day is celebrated every June 5. This year in Baku, it featured remarks from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen, alongside cultural presentations from Azerbaijani artists.
New independent label
Lee’s performance served as a centerpiece of the program and concluded the cultural segment of the event.
His appearance also comes shortly after he launched his own independent label, Upper Room.
With a new song, a new label, and an enthusiastic global fanbase behind him, Lee’s World Environment Day performance demonstrated that his next chapter is already generating excitement far beyond the K-pop world.
