Charli XCX is set to release her new album “Wuthering Heights”, created for Emerald Fennels’ film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel.
Following the success of the Grammy-awarded album “Brat” of 2024, British pop singer and songwriter Charli XCX has announced her new album to be released on February 13, 2026.
The pop singer on Tuesday first released “House”, featuring John Cale from American rock band The Velvet Underground.
House and Chains of Love
House featured a much-different vibe from her previous record Brat. A new era indeed?
From Brat’s popping electro disco sounds of parties and melancholic synths of vulnerability, the Grammy-awarded artist switches to dark, gothic, and haunting sounds.
With an evocative narration from John Cale, the song hinted at The Velvet Underground’s ‘elegant and brutal’ theme.
She then released another single “Chains of Love”, featuring her signature electronic music and a vibe of baroque pop. The same track was used for the newly released trailer of Fennel’s film.
Fans online have noticed undertones of her 2013 album “True Romance”, saying “she’s back!”

It started with a Christmas call
As Charli XCX released “House”, she said on her Instagram post that she got a call from Emerald Fennel, asking if she would consider making a song for her film adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
“I read the script and immediately felt inspired, so Finn Keane and I began working on not just one but many songs that we felt connected to the world she was creating,” said the singer in her post.
She also noted being a fan of The Velvet Underground, and how the band’s words “any song had to be both ‘elegant and brutal,’” inspired her in the creation of the upcoming record.
She then contacted John Cale, and sent him some songs to discuss a possible collaboration.
The rest was history and the magical yet dark song happened, just as aligned with the elegance and brutality they were both looking for.
Wuthering Heights
From a novel by English writer Emily Brontë in 1847 and published under her pen name Ellis Bell, the story of love and vengeance revolves in the Yorkshire moors.
Emerald Fennel directed the film adaptation, starring Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw, a lady of a wealthy family in 18th-century England, and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, described as the antihero of the story.
