Tom Cruise Digger trailer

Tom Cruise is trending on social media after the bold and unconventional trailer for his upcoming comedy film “Digger” was released on Tuesday.

The satirical dark comedy is set to be released in October 2026 and marks a major shift from his usual action films.

What is “Digger”?

Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell, a business tycoon in the energy and oil sector whose reckless actions contribute to a global crisis.

As the world grapples with the crisis that threatens its future, Rockwell attempts to position himself as the main saviour despite having created it.

In a fusion of satire, dark comedy and political drama genres, “Digger” will explore  themes of power, capitalism, and the societal impact of extremely wealthy individuals.

An unconventional trailer grabs attention

“Digger” is gaining massive hype because of its unique trailer alongside its lead in movie star Tom Cruise.

The trailer opens with a retrospective of Cruise’s 46-year career highlights before shifting into footage teasing the new film.

Instead of highlighting the most action-packed elements of the actor’s iconic roles, the trailer features more of the personal, social and dramatic moments his characters experience.

Despite the trailer’s unconventional style, it quickly circulated on social media as many fans praised Cruise’s acting and star power and are eagerly awaiting its release.

An elite creative team

The film is directed by Academy Award winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, known for “Birdman” and “The Revenant.”

“Digger” is his first English-language feature since “The Revenant” and marks Cruise’s return to an original, non-franchise project after years of blockbusters.
