The world’s largest trade fair for the video games industry Gamescom has kicked off its 2025 event in Cologne, Germany, featuring huge announcements from game developers and tech companies.

With the live broadcast of its opening night on August 19, the event is open in Cologne from August 20 to August 24. 

And that’s the fun part – the showcase is not only for professionals, Gamescom 2025 also welcomes the general public.

Opening night’s big reveals

From Lego Batman to Sekiro’s anime adaptation and other surprises, the opening night was jam-packed with confirmations and huge reveals.

After lots of rumors, “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” was finally confirmed to be in the works under the development of TT Games, with no specific date of release yet.

The Lego Games described the game as “a brand-new open world action-adventure videogame that invites players to embark on Bruce Wayne’s epic journey to become the hero of Gotham City, inspired by decades of Batman films, television, comic books, and games, and jam-packed with Batman nostalgia, DC lore, and TT Games’ signature brand of fun-filled LEGO humor.”

Meanwhile, the anime adaptation of “Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice” has been announced. 

The anime will be titled as “Sekiro: No Defeat”. As the production is currently rolling, the release is scheduled for 2026.

Another huge announcement is the fourth title of the iconic “Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War” series.

The event showed an adventurous and dynamic trailer for the game with the legendary Blood Ravens Chapter of Space Marines and Adeptus Mechanicus forces fighting the Orks and Necrons to protect the Kronus world.

Aside from confirmations of rumors, an unexpected reveal of Black Myth: Wukong’s sequel surprised gamers and fans, with the title “Black Myth: Zhong Kui”.

Featuring inspiration from Zhong Kui, a Taoist deity in Chinese mythology, the game is said to be in early development.

In other developments

Opening with a showcase of RTX technology, NVIDIA kicked off its Gamescom 2025 activities.

The tech giant presented how more than 175 games and apps now utilise its latest graphics advancements, such as DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation.

In support of its goal for wider adoption, the company noted that more than ten new RTX titles with DLSS 4 were revealed at the event.

One of its major releases is the Borderlands 4, with major optimisations under DLSS 4.

Meanwhile, the INSTEROID concept automobile and the “INSTEROID Retro Arcade game” are on display at Hyundai Motor’s special exhibit at the Retro & Family Area in Cologne.

“Gaming has become a vital part of everyday digital culture for younger audiences, offering a highly immersive and interactive platform that drives active participation and brand engagement. 

“As part of our broader content marketing strategy, this approach allows us to respond to shifting media dynamics and build emotional connections with the next generation,” said Hyundai Senior Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer Sungwon Jee, according to the Manila Times.
