John Cena’s stellar wrestling career will reach its end on “Saturday Night’s Main Event” on December 13 with Gunther as his final opponent.

Gunther won the privilege of retiring the 17-time world champion by beating LA Knight in the finals of “The Last Time is Now Tournament” during the latest episode of “SmackDown”.

Knight almost won the bout, countering Gunther’s “Sleeper Hold” with his own “BFT” from out of nowhere.

But Gunther’s ring awareness kicked in and put his leg on the ring ropes to break Knight’s pinfall attempt.

Shortly after, Gunther locked in Knight to a “Sleeper Hold”, trying to go for the tap out victory.

But the fan-favourite, feeding off chants from the crowd, narrowly escaped the hold.

Despite Knight’s effort, Gunther still controlled the situation as he rained down elbows to Knight’s neck and managed to lock in another submission to win the match.

Gunther issues stern warning

In the latest episode of “Raw”, Gunther addressed the crowd and described what he will do to Cena.

“Right now is my time. And as I walked to the ring it dawned on me. By submitting LA Knight, I earned one of the biggest honours in my career,” the former World Heavyweight Champion said.

“In five days, I will be the last opponent in the last match in the career of John Cena.”

Gunther praised Cena and acknowledged his accolades, but warned that the “Last Real Champion” will face the “best professional wrestler of all time.”

The Austrian powerhouse then promised that he will dominate Cena and force him to go against his never-give-up attitude.

“I’m going to do something that nobody ever managed before – I’m going to break your spirit, I’m going to push you around, I’m going to bully you,” Gunther said.

“…I’m going to wrap my arms around your neck and I’m going to squeeze with everything I have until the last bit of hustle, loyalty and respect has left your body until there is only one way out, until I force you to do the one thing you said you would never do. I’m going to force you to give up.”

“I will be an ambassador for the WWE. I’m already signed on for another five years,” the 48-year-old said.

“I would like to be in this family as an employee, as a contributing part for as long as I can.”

Cena said that this new position will enable him to continue shining the light on the company.
