Ever wonder what Hannah, Marnie, Jessa, and Shosh have been up to since Girls wrapped nearly a decade ago?
That question will finally be answered when Lena Dunham’s Emmy-winning dramedy returns for a five-episode limited run on HBO.
The American streamer shared the news on October 13 in a video featuring Dunham hopping on a Zoom call with fellow original cast members and asking if they wanted to reunite to film another season of Girls.
“Can we still call it ‘Girls?’ ‘Cause we’re like old as f@$#,” Dunham asks them before the call drops.
What do we know so far?
Production for Season 7 will begin next summer, with Dunham reprising her role as the struggling writer Hannah Horvath, alongside Allison Williams as Marnie Michaels, Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson, and Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro.
Also joining the revival is Andrew Rannells, who will once again portray Hannah’s ex-boyfriend-turned-gay-best-friend Elijah Krantz.
It is not immediately known whether Adam Driver (Adam Sackler) will return to the show in the wake of allegations made by Dunham in her 2026 memoir “Famesick” that the actor was “verbally aggressive” on set.

What is ‘Girls’ about?
Girls follows four women in their 20s as they navigate self-discovery and life’s ups and downs in New York City.
The show ran for six seasons from 2012-17 to critical acclaim, earning 19 Emmy nominations and winning two awards.
It is known for its iconic scenes, including one in the pilot episode where an apparently intoxicated Hannah tells her parents that she could be “the voice of a generation,” or at least “a voice of a generation.”

‘A gift’
On Substack, Dunham said reviving Girls is “a gift”, and thanked her fans for inspiring her to do it.
“There was a long period in which it was impossible to imagine reconvening ‘Girls’ – it felt so recent and so big, like a glacier we were sailing away from,” she wrote in a newsletter dated October 14.
“Then, I turned 40. I thought about the distance I felt – having not yet had a child, having come ‘later’ to marriage, having gone very fast in certain ways and still having some challenges with the washing machine – from the woman I thought I’d be and so many women I know.
“Maybe there was once a part of me that wanted to outrun Hannah and her ladies. Seeing the love you’ve so generously shared for it helped to turn me around.”
