Liverpool City Region has been named the most filmed area outside of London after the Liverpool Film Office released its 2019-2025 Impact Report, detailing the huge boom that the city has seen.

The report reveals the major impact that the TV and film industry has had on the city, creating over 5,000 jobs since 2019 and adding £150 million to the local economy.

This boom has benefited all six of the city region’s boroughs: Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral.

Since 2019, Liverpool has strived to become the ‘Hollywood of the north’ with a £2.8 million LCR Production Fund playing a pivotal role.

The fund has enabled the city to create high-end production facilities and support many projects.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, lauded the fund recently, stating: “The LCR Production Fund isn’t just bringing millions into our local economy – it’s opening doors for local people, giving them life changing opportunities and helping them get a foot in the door of industry.”

“This is why we’ve backed projects like ‘This City Is Ours’ – alongside the world class talent and infrastructure we’ve got here, we’re making sure our region is always in the conversation when it comes to making high-quality productions.”

This City Is Ours

“This City Is Ours” is a BBC drama that follows the twists and turns of a longtime Liverpool organized crime member.

The drama, starring James Nelson-Joyce and Sean Bean, uses the varying backdrops of the Liverpool City Region to reflect the differing sides of life in an organised crime gang.

The modern architecture that intermingles with stunning Georgian buildings show how far the lead character (Nelson-Joyce) has come in life, with the more ‘gritty’ areas of the city showing the dangerous side of his life.

What has been filmed in Liverpool?
