Mohamed Salah’s comments before Liverpool’s 2-0 midweek victory over Newcastle suggest a contract extension is still no closer to being agreed with the Anfield club.

Salah has been in magnificent form for Liverpool this season – and his 25 goals and 17 assists have helped fire the Reds to the top of the Premier League.

The 32-year-old was sensational again in the victory over Newcastle, with the Egyptian star bagging one assist to send Liverpool 13 points clear of their nearest challengers Arsenal.

Salah’s contract expiry fast approaching

Whilst Salah’s performances look set to earn him a host of team and personal accolades, question marks remain over his future, with the Egyptian’s contract expiring this summer.

With the form Salah is in, his future at the club remains an increasing source of anxiety amongst Liverpool fans.

His comments before his latest dazzling display won’t have provided any security, either.

Giving it his all

Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the Newcastle game, Salah was asked how he’d like to be remembered by fans amid the contract uncertainty.

He replied: “I’d say just for the fans to remember that I give it all to the fans, I give it all to the city.

“I was here. I wasn’t lazy. I enjoyed my football and just give it all because I think that’s what the city’s about.

“They give you love and you have a connection with them because you give it all.

“I just want them to remember I was here for eight years or whatever and I just give it all.”

The hypothetical question produced a past tense answer, but Salah’s response will hardly fill Reds with confidence that the Egyptian King will be staying at Liverpool beyond this season.

Work to be done off the pitch

Things are looking very good for Arne Slot’s men on the pitch, but this has been achieved against a backdrop of uncertainty surrounding the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van-Dijk as well as Salah.

With Trent heavily linked to Real Madrid, rumours suggest the latter of the trio are the most likely to stay.

However, Salah’s comments leave lingering doubts over whether an agreement will be reached.

Though Liverpool look to have the title in the bag already, there remains plenty of work to be done behind the scenes between now and the end of the season.
