Britney Spears has responded to scathing claims that her ex-husband Kevin Federline has made in his new memoir.

Excerpts from Federline’s tell-all memoir, “You Thought You Knew”, to be released on October 21, discussed the pop star’s supposed cheating, drug use and erratic behavior towards her two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Alarming allegations

In his memoir, Federline alleged that their sons were afraid to sleep in Spears’ house because she would stand in front of their doorways holding a knife while they slept.

He also made claims about the singer cheating on him with a female “starlet”, drinking while pregnant and using cocaine while still breastfeeding their second son.

“Extremely hurtful and exhausting”

In a lengthy post on X and Instagram, the “…Baby One More Time” and “Stronger” hitmaker called the allegations part of Federline’s “constant gaslighting”, which she described as “extremely hurtful and exhausting.”

She also said that she has always “pleaded and screamed to have a life” with her sons.

“Relationships with teenage boys (are) complex. I have felt demoralised by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life,” she continued.

“Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by (their) own father for me,” she added, saying that she only saw one of her sons for 45 minutes and another for only four visits in the past five years.

“White lies… going straight to the bank”

The 43-year-old pop icon also clapped back that the “white lies” in the memoir “they are going straight to the bank.”

“I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here,” she added.

Meanwhile, Spears’ representative also released a statement, saying: “With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin.”

Spears and Federline tied the knot in 2004 and divorced in 2007. NBC News reported that the singer paid between $20,000 and $40,000 in child support for their sons.

“Freedom in exchange for naps with children”

“All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir (The Woman in Me),” Spears’ representative continued.

The singer was put under conservatorship from 2008 until 2021, when a Los Angeles court dissolved it during the height of the “Free Britney” campaign.

During the conservatorship, Federline had sole custody of their sons, and long periods of time would pass between Spears’ visits.

Since her release from her conservatorship, the pop star has spent more time with her children.

Spears discussed her complicated relationship with her sons and the custody battle in her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” saying she was willing to trade her freedom in exchange for naps with them.
