Filipino-American pop star Olivia Rodrigo discussed her upcoming album and songwriting process while making a Paloma cocktail and chicken lumpia in her latest British Vogue video feature.

In the “Now Serving” series, the “Driver’s License” and “Deja Vu” hitmaker described the classic Filipino dish as “really delicious and savory, and kind of greasy in the best way.”

She also recalled her first introduction to lumpia through her grandmother’s cooking.

“I don’t know, it’s just like feel-good food. My grandma used to make them for Thanksgiving every year, and so that was probably my first introduction to lumpia,” she said.

Olivia then prepared the lumpia filling with carrots, cilantro, garlic, ground chicken, onion, parsley, pepper, salt and sesame oil before wrapping and frying the rolls.

Additionally, she also whipped up a Paloma cocktail with a dash of calamansi, sharing a memory of her with her best friend trying to order the drink at a bar while they were 19 years old.

“I think we were like, 19. And we went to a bar, and obviously, we weren’t old enough to be served alcohol, but we were like, ‘Maybe if we go in there super confidently, they’ll serve us a drink…’” she said.

“And they came up to us, and they weren’t gonna card us. We were feeling so confident. My friend goes, ‘Yeah, we’ll take 2 Panomas’.

“And the person’s like, ‘Paloma’s. ID, please.’ And then we didn’t get served alcohol.

“But now I know that it’s called the Paloma and it’s really good and I’m 22, so I can drink it legally, which just makes it taste even better,” she continued.

Injecting joy to ‘OR3’

While cooking, Olivia shared that her next album, which fans refer to as “OR3”, will explore joy.

“I feel like the album is very varied. I really wanted to figure out a way to kind of write about joy in this album.

“I feel like my last two albums are very rightfully so, kind of angsty and heartbroken, and just as a creative endeavor, and also ‘cause I was experiencing a lot of joy in my life.

“I wanted to figure out how to, like, inject that into the songs that I was making,” she said.

The Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter also shared that “alone times” are important for her when creating music.

“I feel like I create the best when I’m alone. There’s like a weird feeling, everyone feels it like when you’re like writing something or making art or whatever you do that’s creative,” she said.

“There’s like a weird flow state that you get in when you’re really creative, or you’re having a good idea.

“I call it like a big magic idea where it sort of just feels like you’re downloading something from the universe. And that only ever really happens to me when I’m totally alone,” she added.

‘OR3’ is on its way

Recently, Olivia has been teasing her third album, with eagle-eyed fans spotting clues on the direction that “OR3” will take.

The singer teased last year that “OR3” will come sometime in 2026, as it will be a busy year for her as she “dreams things up”.

On February 25, Daniel Nigro, Olivia’s longtime collaborator, shared a picture of himself and the singer with the caption “Finishing records…”, fuelling speculation that the album is on its way.

Earlier, a mural in Los Angeles was spotted bearing the singer’s new logo, with the wall being repainted multiple times to show a transition from her “Sour” and “Guts” era purple to the new album’s pink visuals.

A fan in London also found a lock with Olivia’s new logo and the word “April” written on the side. Meanwhile, a billboard bearing the logo appeared in Manila.
