Taylor Swift has announced a new single titled “Patient Zero” to be released on Friday, September 25.
Along with the announcement, Swift posted a seemingly cryptic “0000” countdown on her Instagram account, quickly sparking theories among her fans, Swifties, over what the string of zeroes could mean.
The multi-Grammy winner also made a small but noticeable change to her bio, replacing the letter “o” with zeroes.
It now reads: “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u.”
New chapter for Swift?
With zeroes showing up everywhere, some fans believe that the American superstar could be hinting at the idea of starting over or beginning a new chapter.
The theory gained even more buzz online as Swift recently stepped into a new chapter of her life, marrying National Football League (NFL) star Travis Kelce last July.
Whether the clues have anything to do with her new life as a married woman remains unclear, but one thing’s for sure: Swifties will not have to wait long to find out what “Patient Zero” has in store.
More ways to hear ‘Patient Zero’
Swift is also giving fans more than one version of her latest release.
Her official online store unveiled three collector’s edition CDs: the original “Patient Zero,” an acoustic version and a piano version.
Each version comes with a double-sided cover and was listed at $3.99.
A countdown also appeared on the store, noting that the collector’s edition CDs were available “while supplies last.”
Another VMA first
Just two days after “Patient Zero” arrives, Swift will have another milestone to celebrate.
The superstar is set to become the first recipient of the MTV VMA Artist Director Honors at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
According to a press release, the new award recognizes “groundbreaking music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling.”
MTV also praised Swift’s evolution behind the camera, describing her as “one of the most distinctive directors of her generation.”
Swift is no stranger to the director’s chair.
She is a seven-time VMA Best Director nominee and has won the category four times, with a directing résumé that includes “The Man,” “cardigan,” “willow,” “All Too Well: The Short Film,” “Anti-Hero,” “Fortnight,” “Opalite,” and “The Fate of Ophelia,” among others.
